Chippewa Creek Golf & Country Club at Mount Hope

Our Course History:
In 1989, the former owner of what was the Mount Hope Golf & Country Club, Ralph Hyslop, purchased 188 acres of rural farmland along Chippewa Creek Road, three kilometers south of what is now Hamilton's John C Monroe International Airport. Using a section of the farmland's natural topography, Ralph designed and built the original course (the Red Falcon Nine) and opened it for play in 1991. Soon thereafter, he expanded the layout to 18 holes with the addition of what is now the White Hawk Nine.
In 1994, the Hyslops sold the course to a family consortium headed by 20-year NHL veteran, Dave Creighton, and his brothers-in-law, Bill Sherlock and George Bowes. The new owners added another nine-hole layout (the Gold Eagle Nine) designed by renowned golf course architect, the late Rene Muylaert . They also renovated and expanded the original farmhouse which serves to this day as Chippewa Creek's clubhouse and banquet facility. The old barn that dominates the view heading up the entrance drive to the course was also structurally re-engineered and modified to provide storage for a large fleet of power carts. Over the years, the owners have continually invested in course improvements -- whether it be the planting of trees, the expansion of ponds and irrigation, the addition of mounds and bunkers, or the renovation of greens and tee decks.
With the passing of George Bowes in 2000, the Sherlock and Creighton families continue to own and successfully operate Chippewa Creek, along with a course in Barrie, Ontario (Simoro Golf Links) and three in Florida (Countryway and Lexington Oaks, near-to and north of Tampa, as well as the Kissimmee Golf & Country Club).
